(Queen's Park Report - February 1, 2012) Nobody knows what’s best for a community better than the people, small businesses and local councillors who live there. That is why it is so maddening to see signs of large industrial wind and solar projects pushing ahead despite endless local opposition.
(Queen's Park Report - January 20, 2012) Big money is transforming politics in Ontario, and if it is not addressed, the province will forever be dominated by the influence of wealthy interests who are so well-heeled that they can easily distort democracy
(Queen's Park Report - January 16, 2012) With over 560,000 Ontarians out of work and a $16 billion deficit that has only gone up since October, it’s plainly obvious that the time for action is well overdue. Since Election Day, the McGuinty Liberals haven’t introduced a single proposal to stem the problem. Given that they are out of ideas, they can gladly have ours. Here`s how Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives would get our province back on track.
(January 13, 2012) With each passing day since the October election, the only record the McGuinty Liberals can point to is one of inaction to tackling Ontario’s jobs and spending crisis, Ontario PC House Leader Jim Wilson said today at a Queen's Park press conference.
(January 9, 2012) There is little doubt that 2012 will be a challenging year. The number of issues to follow in our riding will be plenty; so far the least known factor is the outcome of each concern.
(December 14, 2011) I am writing to provide a brief update for those who share my concern about the closure of Duntroon Central Public School and the safeguarding of rural schools in general.
Hudak & Wilson: McGuinty is out of ideas, so he can have ours
(December 9, 2011) The fall session of the Legislature has exposed a Liberal government that’s out of gas and out of ideas, and now simply stalling on action to address job losses and runaway spending, Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak said today.
CTV News coverage of the push for support services for Jessi Dillon of Nottawa
(December 7, 2011) CTV News coverage of the push by Gary and Leslie Dillon of Nottawa and Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson to get their daughter Jessi the support services she needs.
Action needed on pension legislation: Wilson
(December 7, 2011) Jim Wilson is renewing his call for government action to fill a void in existing pension regulations that affects thousands of public sector employees, including several paramedics in the County of Simcoe.
(December 5, 2011) Ontario’s Auditor General delivered a cutting rebuke of Dalton McGuinty’s energy policies today in his annual report. Included were a vindication of Jim Wilson and his massive yearlong tour of Ontario warning of Dalton McGuinty’s fly-by-night excuse for his extension of hydro’s Debt Retirement Charge (DRC).
Carrying nothing but some research and a small podium, Wilson stood in front of hydro transformer stations right across the province – visiting over 80 communities – to warn taxpayers that Mr. McGuinty was pulling a fast one on them by using the money collected from the DRC to pay for his expensive energy experiments. While the Liberals denied it, the Auditor General confirmed today, “As of March 2011, $8.7 billion of the $7.8 billion residual stranded debt had been collected.”
Collingwood hospital expansion must be a priority: Wilson
(November 29, 2011) Jim Wilson rose in the Ontario Legislature today to renew his calls for an expansion of Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. The Simcoe-Grey MPP says the need for the expansion is growing and that patients in Southern Georgian Bay deserve their fair share of capital funding set aside by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Thank you, Simcoe-Grey
Last week I had the honour of being sworn-in as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe-Grey in the 40th Ontario Parliament. Taking the Oath of Allegiance is always a very humbling experience. This year I enjoyed the comfort of friends, family members and locally elected officials who joined me for this special occasion at Queen's Park.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you, the constituents of Simcoe-Grey, for granting me the privilege of serving and representing you and your priorities both at home in the riding and in the Legislature at Queen's Park.
Wilson named House Leader of the “government-in-waiting”
(October 19, 2011) Jim Wilson was promoted today at Queen’s Park. The Simcoe-Grey MPP has been tasked by PC Leader Tim Hudak to play a significant role in the new minority legislature as House Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
The House Leader is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the
party in the legislature and is in charge of negotiations with the
leadership of other parties on the conduct of bills and debates. The
role is particularly significant in a minority, where no one party has
control of the House and where bills can only be passed with the
agreement of other parties.
(Queen's Park Report - August 8, 2011) If you've seen those nasty new attack ads from the group that calls itself the Working Families Coalition, you'll be interested in this column. These are ads that show just how desperate the McGuinty Liberals are to hang on to power.
Working Families is a friendly name for a union-led coalition that I believe acts as a front for the Ontario Liberal Party. It is a coalition of special interest groups that Dalton McGuinty's party has cobbled together to help him get re-elected. It includes the various teachers' and building trades unions, the auto workers and other groups we don't yet know about.
Jim on CP24: Families want relief from high taxes and skyrocketing hydro bills
Jim was a guest on LeDrew Live recently talking about the need to give Ontario families relief from high taxes and skyrocketing hydro bills. Click the picture above to watch a video of his interview.
Wilson pushes for pension regulations for local workers
(March 30, 2011) Jim Wilson continued to advocate for Simcoe County paramedics and other local public service employees today who have been seeking changes to the Pension Benefits Act. In Question Period, the Simcoe-Grey MPP asked the Minister of Finance when they can expect Regulations to be introduced to allow for the transfer of pension assets.
(March 22, 2011) Collingwood General and Marine Hospital is bursting at the seams and Jim Wilson wants it expanded. The Simcoe-Grey MPP used Question Period to ask the McGuinty government why they have ignored the capital requirements of the hospital for the past seven years.
The McGuinty Government: A Threat to Ontario's Families
(Queen's Park Report - March 21, 2011) Next week the McGuinty Liberals will present this year’s Ontario Budget. In light of what Dalton McGuinty has done to household finances, nobody should believe a word that he says.
Let’s not forget the 2003 election when Mr. McGuinty said, “I'm telling Ontario families that their taxes will not go up tomorrow or any day under a Liberal government."
Seven months later, he brought in what was the single largest tax
increase in Ontario history when he implemented the Health Tax. This
greedy tax grab has robbed $18 billion from families and seniors since
being implemented – so much for that pledge not to raise taxes.
(March 4, 2011) Jim at Queen's Park speaking with John Nichols at The Peak FM
in Collingwood about Duntroon Central Public School and the dialysis situation at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
The case for rural schools
(Queen's Park Report - February 8, 2011) Contrary to popular belief, there are times when I agree with Dalton McGuinty. His commitment not to close rural schools was a good one. The trouble is he didn't keep it.
Debt Retirement Charge: McGuinty Money Mystery Tour
(January 29, 2011) Jim has taken taken to the road on a tour dubbed the "McGuinty Money Mystery Tour" to call for a forensic audit into hydro's debt retirement charge. Jim and Tim Hudak are calling on Dalton McGuinty to explain why he plans to charge Ontario families $1 billion a year for an extra six years for the $7.8 billion that was on schedule to have been fully paid in 2012. Click here to watch a video of Jim explaining the issue to the media in Brantford. To watch Jim speak about skyrocketing hydro rates while in Cobourg, click here. Jim is fighting against Dalton McGuinty's expensive energy experiments
(January 25, 2011) Jim is fighting hard against Dalton McGuinty's expensive energy experiements that have caused hydro bills to go up by 75% since the McGuinty Government took office and are projected to increase rates by a further 46% over the next 5 years. In January, Jim is taking the message on the road to raise awareness of the issue right across Ontario.
Wilson Renews Calls for Highway 89 Traffic Lights
(December 22, 2010) As winter weather arrives in New Tecumseth causing difficult road conditions, Jim Wilson renewed his repeated calls for traffic signals to be installed at the entrance to Green Briar on Highway 89. The Simcoe-Grey MPP used a statement in the Legislature recently to press the McGuinty Government to act on this important local safety issue.
Dear Constituents: I am writing today to ask for your thoughts and ideas on the future of our great province. Ontario has tremendous potential, both in its land and its people. But I worry about the path Ontario is on today. As I travel the riding talking to hard working families, they tell me that they are struggling to keep up and despite all they pay in tax, government just isn't working for them any longer.
I believe the best advice on the future of our province and how we can move forward comes from families like you. That's why I want your advice on how to provide you with real tax relief, focus government on the services that matter most and create good, private sector jobs. Please visit www.HaveYourSayOntario.ca to participate in our survey. I look forward to your feedback and ideas.
Sincerely,
Jim Wilson, MPP
Standing up for Ontario students on The Agenda with Steve Paikin
(November 18, 2010) Jim Wilson participated in a roundtable discussion on TVO Ontario's The Agenda to talk about the McGuinty Government's decision to award lucrative $40,000 per year scholarships to foreign students.
Wilson Hosts Successful Telephone Town Hall
(Queen's Park) Jim Wilson used innovative and interactive technology to connect with constituents on October 21st. That's when the Simcoe-Grey MPP hosted his first telephone town hall meeting, making him one of the first elected officials in Canada to usher in this new technology. (Part 1 of 4 of the town hall is above. To listen to all other segments, click or scroll down further below).
Wilson pushes for new Simcoe-Grey Long-Term Care Beds
PART ONE
PART TWO
(November 20, 2008) Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson says the McGuinty Liberals should be feeling shame today after refusing to deal with the legitimate fear that many of the 19,000 senior citizens in Simcoe-Grey have about the critical shortage of long-term care beds in their local communities.
