Dalton McGuinty's Terrible Summer
(Queen's Park Report - August 30, 2010) Here is some explosive news.  One hundred and forty three prisoners were mistakenly released from Ontario prisons.  Just as troubling is the fact that the Erie-St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) was caught spending $10,900 of our health funds to hire Disney to speak at their lavish convention in Windsor.

Wilson: PCs Will Restore Local Decision Making
(Queen's Park Report - August 23, 2010) Voters across our riding will soon go to the polls to elect the people they want to serve on their town councils.  While you won’t find me endorsing any local candidate, I believe that these campaigns matter.  It is an opportunity to place your faith in the individuals who you believe will make the best decisions for your community.  Unfortunately, the model of local government is at risk.

Beaver Cleaver and the ‘aww shucks’ moment
(Queen's Park Report - August 3, 2010) I couldn’t help thinking of Theodore (Beaver) Cleaver this week as I watched Dalton McGuinty emerge from the shadows after a bumpy July for the Province of Ontario.  Much like the fictional character from Leave it to Beaver, Mr. McGuinty has mastered the “aww shucks” moment.

McGuinty Must Take Responsibility for Eco-tax Disaster
Eco-tax (July 16, 2010) What a complete disaster the eco-tax has turned out to be.  If you were away last week and missed it, I’m referring to the sneaky new tax that Dalton McGuinty implemented on more than 9,000 consumer products on Canada Day.  Let’s review how this disaster unfolded.

For me it all started when a hardware store owner called my office to let me know that he was being forced into placing a 100% tax on the price of a bag of concrete.  I had to hear it from a small business owner because the McGuinty government didn’t tell anyone about the eco-tax.

The Problem With Debt
"Dalton McGuinty has made it so that every baby born in Ontario will arrive with 10 little fingers and 10 little toes and $29,285 in new debt"

(Queen's Park Report - April 1, 2010)  There is an enormous problem when a government racks up gigantic deficits and debts.  The impacts of such measures are such that every Ontarian who cares about better hospitals, safer communities, stronger infrastructure, enhanced education and job creation should be genuinely concerned.  Those who argue that deficit spending is necessary to uphold these public services are sorely mistaken.

McGuinty takes taxing and spending to a whole new level

Hidden Tax Grab(Queen's Park Report - March 23, 2010) Ontario’s tax and spend Premier is at it again.  In the past week Dalton McGuinty has not only announced sweetheart deals for provincial tax collectors, he has also secretly imposed a new hidden hydro tax on Ontario families.

In a very clandestine way, with no advance notification or public warning, Dalton McGuinty used a little known power he has under the Liberals’ Green Energy Act to issue a regulation that will force energy utilities to collect over $53 million in new taxes through our hydro bills.

It’s so sneaky how the Liberals did this.  This week they came out saying there would be no tax increases in the budget, but the week before they actually hiked taxes.  This is a great example of the Machiavellian way that the Liberals try to fool Ontarians.

Hydro Bills Set to Skyrocket

(Queen's Park Report - January 27, 2010) The advent of a New Year is typically a time when people start to rein in spending and adhere to a strict budget after an often expensive Christmas season.  This year that budget will grow to be even tighter due to Dalton McGuinty’s hydro scheme that will set us on a course for skyrocketing energy prices.

Tired of Red Tape?

Red Tape(Queen's Park Report - January 20, 2010) Is onerous red tape holding you or your business back?  Are you pointlessly filling out government forms, obtaining permits for things you shouldn’t need permits for, or waiting for approvals from endless layers of bureaucracy?  If so, I want to hear from you.

The phrase “red tape” dates back to 16th century.  That’s when Henry VIII presented documents to Pope Clement VII petitioning him to terminate his marriage.  As was the tradition, the papers were tied together with red tape.  Nowadays, red tape is a term often used to describe excessive or redundant regulations that slow down the decision making process and impede our ability to thrive.
